I filled up with premium gas, drove about 6 miles to work, and thought I’d check my mpg… I kind of regret it now .
Driving 6 miles on surface streets can be similar. I usually average around 13.5 mpg on my under ten-minute commute. Factors like warming up the car, stopping at red lights, and repeatedly accelerating contribute to this.
Either this is a really quick drive on city roads, or you’re driving like a maniac! I have about a 15-minute commute to work, with roughly 10 minutes on the highway, and I usually get around 24-26 mpg. When I head home around midnight, there’s no traffic, and I average 28-30 mpg. My best mileage, when I drive conservatively, is actually 33 mpg for that short trip. I always drive in sport mode and go about 10 miles over the speed limit. I have a 22 GT, and I typically never get below 20 mpg unless I’m trying to!
If we keep the green bar fully filled at 50, we can maintain high mpg most of the time. Accelerating on declines, easing off the gas on inclines, and coasting in neutral helps me achieve 39 mpg in city traffic. Since I have the 4-cylinder GT-Line, I believe the GT would likely get around 36 mpg.
You’re also wasting money on premium gas since the GT is designed for 87 octane. I get 31 mpg on my GT during my 40-mile commute, averaging 55 mph. I’ve driven 15,000 miles on mine, and I’ve only used 87 octane.
