How many miles can a Kia Optima last?

I bought a 2013 Kia Optima LX with 47,000 miles for around $11,000 a couple of years ago. It’s at 97,000 miles now, and I’m curious how long these cars typically last. I’ve kept up with regular maintenance, oil changes every 3,000 miles, and handled all recalls. They replaced the engine for free at 93,000 miles. So far, it’s been flawless except for some paint issues on the nose. Anyone here driving a Kia Optima past 100,000 miles? Any issues I should be aware of?

I had a similar experience with my 2011. Great car overall.

How much did you pay for your 2011, and how many miles did it have when you got it?

My 2010 made it to 167,000 miles before it got totaled. The only major repairs were a sensor and some engine mounts.

I have a 2015 Kia Optima LX with 38,000 miles. In just a year, I’ve had wiring issues, RPM spikes, a broken radio, trunk latch problems, and AC issues. I plan to trade it in soon.

I’ve got a 2011 with 110,000 miles. It’s been solid so far, but I might need a ball joint soon. There are some known issues with passenger-side tie rods, click springs, and AC discharge hoses. However, nothing major to report yet.

How is the engine warranty covered? I just bought a 2011 6-speed manual.

It’s covered by the recall, even if you’re not the first owner. My 6-speed manual was bought used, and it’s fully covered.

Why aren’t the hybrids included in the recall?

The hybrid engines are different, so the recall doesn’t apply to them.

Does the warranty apply if you buy from a third party?

Yes, it does. I bought mine from a small used car dealer, and it’s still covered under the recall.

Which engine models are the problematic ones?

Both the 2.4 and 2.0T engines are part of the recall. I’ve seen more issues with the turbo engines, though.

You paid $11,000 for a 2013? That’s a great deal. I bought mine last year with 65,000 miles for $14,000. It’s an SXL, though.

Mine is just an LX model.

My brother has a 2014 with the 2.4L engine and over 225,000 kilometers. It runs perfectly with no issues.

The Canadian versions are built in South Korea. We also get trims like the EX with luxury options that aren’t available in the US.

A close friend had an Optima SX and sold it at 20,000 miles after issues with the navigation and radio. She moved on to another car.

I have a 2012 SX with 60,000 miles. No major issues, but I had to replace the backup camera recently. Kia reduced the cost significantly.
