How dependable are Kia Optimas really

A few years back I got a 2013 Kia Optima lx with 47,000 miles. I think I paid around $11,000 for it. I chose it over the accord. Now after two years, I’m at 97,000 miles and I’m curious about how long these cars last. I keep it in good shape, changing the oil every 3000 miles and I’ve taken care of all the recalls. They provided a rebuilt engine for free when it reached 93,000 miles. How long do these cars typically last? Does anyone have experience over 100,000 miles? Any problems? Mine has been great so far except for some damaged paint on the front. Overall it’s perfect.

How much did you pay for your 2011 and what was the mileage

I had a 2010 that was totaled by someone at 167k miles. I only had to replace a bad sensor and some engine mounts

I have a 2015 Kia Optima LX with just 38,000 miles that I got a year ago. In that time, I’ve faced several wiring problems, random RPM changes while driving, issues with the radio, had to fix the trunk latch, and now I’m having AC trouble. So I’m not pleased with the car and will trade it in as soon as possible.

I drive a 2011 with 110k and it’s been fine. I expect the engine will have issues eventually, but since it’s covered for free, I’m not worried. I might need a ball joint soon, and I’ve heard about issues with the passenger side tie rod, click spring issues, and AC hose leaks. Other than that, I can’t recall any major common problems.

How is the engine covered? I just bought a 2011 6 speed

Mine’s also a 6 speed manual. It’s covered since it’s a standard Optima. All Optimas except hybrids are part of the recall, including those made in Korea.

Why aren’t the hybrids covered

I’m late to this, but hybrid engines are really different from regular ones, which is probably why the recall doesn’t apply to them.

@Finlo
Is that the case if you buy it from a third party

Yeah. I got mine from a small used car dealer with 86k. There are no mileage limits.

What trims are included

All trims are covered except for hybrids.

Which engines are known to have problems

Both the 2.4 and 2.0t are covered. I’ve had to order a lot more turbo engines though.

You got a 2013 for $11,000? What trim is it? I bought mine last year with 65k miles for $14k. It’s an SXL though.

It’s an lx, just so you know

My brother owns a 2014 model with the 2.4 litre engine. He just hit 225,000 km and it’s running perfectly with great fuel efficiency. Did we get different models in Canada

The ones we have in Canada are made in South Korea. In Canada, we also have the option for the EX with a luxury trim, which they don’t have in the US.
